The film tells the story of the struggle of the Tabuaço theater group, led by Dr. Matias, a Brazilian actor/dentist, against a politician who wants to tear down the village's old theater. With the arrival of outsider Maria Duarte, the group gains new momentum to try to stop the destruction of the building, with the support of the population.
